HELP NOW

Executive Director's Message

GREAT THANKSGIVING BANQUET COULD BE LARGEST EVER FOR THE MISSION!

Dear Mission Partners,

As you probably know, just $2.05 can provide a hearty Thanksgiving dinner for hungry and homeless people at Open Door Mission. In  a few weeks, it will feed one more person at our annual Great Thanksgiving Banquet, even has our nation's ailing economy brings more people in crisis to our door.

And at Thanksgiving, no one should go hungry in the Rochester area.

This Thanksgiving season, there will be poor and homeless men, women and children who never thought they would need our help this year. With the rising of unemployment, job layoffs, food and fuel prices and the home foreclosure crisis we are expecting a record number of visitors to the Mission this holiday season.

We will also see many homeless people who are struggling with addictions. A few will be tough and wary, and many will have a distant, hopeless look in their eyes. For these people, real change will have to start on the inside, as they experience God's life-transforming love.

Regardless of their need, all will be fed. And our hot, traditional Thanksgiving meal can be the first step toward a new life. By helping them deal with their problems, you are doing something to improve life in our community. So I'm asking for your support with that first step to help us feed the hungry this Thanksgiving season.

We'll make your gift go father than you can imagine. For example, a Thanksgiving gift of $600.00 will help make a hearty feast possible for scores of hungry and homeless people. Would you join us in this important outreach? I hope you will send a gift of whatever amount you can to our Great Thanksgiving Banquet Campaign.

And, as you enjoy your own celebration this Thanksgiving, you will know that you have given real meaning to Thanksgiving Day by helping us reach out with God's love to the hungry and homeless.

Happy Thanksgiving to you,

Ronald K. Fox
