HELP NOW

Executive Director's Message

Help our city's neediest people survive the winter.

What's it like to live with nothing but cardboard between you and the street?

A piece of cast-off cardboard can be a homeless person's best friend – or last resort. If you're lucky enough to get a whole box, it can be a home. Or the only suitcase you have for your meager belongings.

Here at the Open Door Mission, with your help, we replace cardboard with warm beds, serviceable shoes, clothing and a place to shelter from winter temperatures so cold they can kill in a matter of hours. We also provide hot meals and the means to end homelessness – one person at a time.

Do these simple services make a difference? Absolutely! Just ask Kenny!

Kenny lived in the subway for two years. "You either have to be mentally ill big time or have a really bad alcohol problem to live down there, because nobody in his right mind would live there otherwise!"

Friendless and convinced that no one loved him, Kenny decided to end his life. But God spoke to him and said, "take my hand and I will show you the way." Kenny took the hand the Lord offered and it led him to the Open Door Mission and into our Christian Life and Substance Abuse Program.

"Today, God is living in me and I am thankful. I've got a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food in my stomach. I'm being trained in righteousness."

From homeless to hopeful -- that's the difference your support can make.

You can provide all this and more with your secure online gift to Operation Safe Shelter.

Bless you for caring,

Ronald K. Fox
Executive Director
